Launching a Structured Integrity Protection Policy

Thanks to the joint effort of the government, sports federations and the various stakeholders that make up the Québec sports community, a structured policy for the protection of personal integrity has been put in place in all Québec sports federations.

This new policy, overseen by an independent officer who will deal with complaints, will create a climate of trust, so victims can report their abuser without fear of reprisals. From now on, the whistleblowing process will be standardized and fair, and complaints will be analyzed objectively and independently.

For Isabelle Charest, Minister of Education and Minister Responsible for the Status of Women in the Québec government, this is a major step forward in the world of sport, since until now, the processing of complaints has been managed differently by each federation due to a lack of resources. “Since I became Minister, it has been really important to me that we could put in place tools to improve the handling of complaints in the sports community. Thanks to the incredible collaboration with the RLSQ, Sport’Aide and sports federations, our federations will now have access to a turnkey tool to manage cases of abuse and harassment. It is an approach that prioritizes the well-being of victims and ensures that all complaints are dealt with professionally and fairly. This is a very big step forward for the world of sport and I want to thank all the partners who made this possible.”

Finally, it should be noted that, to promote prevention and raise awareness among the parties concerned, information and training tools will also be made available to athletes, coaches, officials, administrators and volunteers involved in the leisure and sport industries.
